Recent job
Recent job: 4-year-old DeLonghi Eletta Explore at a Brentwood home, owner reported brew-unit jam — had tried to force-remove it and damaged a chassis rail in the process. Diagnosed: brew unit jammed from grease cake-up at the gear track (skipped maintenance), chassis rail bent slightly during forced removal. Recovered the brew unit, straightened and reinforced the rail, replaced the brew unit (preventive at this age). Total: 2.25 hours, $420 parts and labor. The "broken" machine was working again the same afternoon.
Honest opinion
DeLonghi consumer marketing pushes the Magnifica S hard because it is the cheapest entry into the brand. The honest reality is that the $500 Magnifica S has roughly 4-5 years of useful service life and is effectively disposable past that. If you want a DeLonghi that you can actually own and service for 8-10 years, the Magnifica Evo is the floor — not the base S. We will say this on the front end before you spend $400 on a service that doesn’t pencil.
